Living Family Tradition

The great-grandparents of the current owner, Michael Gröer, took over the Hotel zum Schiff in Meersburg as early as 1930.

This was no longer new territory for the family, but just a new beginning. Before that, they had welcomed their guests for decades at the Hotel Königlicher Hof in Elbing in what was then East Prussia.

It was only during the war years that the hotel in Elbing was abandoned and they fled towards Lake Constance. Fortunately for the family, the Hotel zum Schiff in Meersburg was their destination.

The war years and the subsequent period of occupation by the French were not easy to master in Meersburg either. Like everyone else, the family struggled with the economic and other difficulties that this period brought with it.

But little by little, tourism picked up and required adaptation to the changing needs and wishes of guests.

This has not changed to this day, so that over time various renovations have been carried out on this building, which is over 700 years old.

We have selected a few old pictures from the Meersburg archive and our family albums to take you on a little journey through time.
